Although Blake Lively is known for wearing skimpy outfits on the set of Gossip Girl, the 21-year-old star confesses that she doesn’t do anything to make her body look good.

“I do panic before I have to wear a really skimpy outfit, but I don’t have enough willpower,” she tells the August issue of UK Glamour Magazine. “I had to do a scene in a bra and shorts for the first time in two years,” she continues. “On the day of the shoot, I ate a pork burrito, chips and coke. Afterwards, I thought, ‘I probably shouldn’t have done that.’ But whatever.”

So maybe she doesn’t eat right, but at least she exercises, right? Wrong! “I have never worked out, but I know you feel better when you do,” she says, “so I am planning on getting a trainer.”

Lively, who has previously refuted reports of discord on the Gossip set, tells the magazine that she gets along well with her costars. “We hang out after filming,” she insists. “We actually look forward to spending time together outside of work.”

That includes her real-life leading man Penn Badgley, although she admits she was unhappy when he was cast on the series. “At first I was so upset that they hired him,” she says. “I actually poisoned the whole cast against him. But then they noticed that he wasn’t a jerk and was actually a really nice, charming person. Almost immediately I realized that too, but it took me about a week to admit it.”

The CW confirms to E! News that Hilary Duff is joining the cast of Gossip Girl for a multi-episode guest arc. She’ll be playing a girl named Olivia, Vanessa’s (Jessica Szohr) new roommate at NYU, but that’s not all.

Find out what we’ve learned exclusively about which Gossip guy Duff’s character is going after when the CW’s crown jewel returns for season three…

Inside sources tell us exclusively that Duff’s character Olivia is a movie star who just wants to live a simple peasant girl’s life at college and date a simple unfamous guy.

Lucky for Olivia, then, that Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley) doesn’t know who she is and that he wants to hook up with her. Yep, not only are Dan and Serena (Blake Lively) broken up, but Dan is getting serious with this new girl Olivia.

Gasp!

Thoughts on this casting?

Thoughts on the future of Dan and Serena?

You know what to do…

The CW will kick off its fall campaign on Sept. 8 with the sophomore year of “90210″ and the bow of “Melrose Place.”
Net has also decided to flop the time slots of its Monday dramas, which will send “Gossip Girl” to the 9 p.m. hour.

It’s the second year in a row that “90210″ is the centerpiece of the net’s fall launch campaign, and CW is hoping that anticipation will be high for the remodeled “Melrose.” CW is getting a jumpstart on its competish by launching the week of Sept. 8, but it won’t be quite as quick out of the gate as last year, when the net’s fall sked launched on Labor Day.

The rollout continues Sept. 9 with the two-hour preem of “America’s Next Top Model,” followed Sept. 10 by the preem of “Vampire Diaries” and return of “Supernatural.”

The Monday slate returns on Sept. 14, though the “Gossip Girl”-”One Tree Hill” slot swap will take effect July 6 with repeat segs. The regular Wednesday slate of “Top Model” and newbie drama “A Beautiful Life” arrives on Sept. 16.

CW’s Friday lineup of “Smallville” and “Top Model” repeat will not materialize until Sept. 25. On Friday Sept. 11 and Sept. 18, the net plans to run repeats of its new dramas.

CW will also rerun segs of its new series on Sundays through Sept. 27, when it formally returns five hours of program time to its affiliate stations. CW confirmed last month that it is bowing out of Sunday programming in an effort to strengthen its overall primetime perf (Daily Variety, May 5).

CW also confirmed to its affiliate stations this month that it will give back one hour of its two-hour Monday-Friday daytime block as of the 2010-11 season. At present it programs the 3-5 p.m. block with yakker “The Tyra Banks Show,” one original and one repeat seg. As of 2010-11, it will return the 4-5 p.m. hour to affiliates.

In our annual salute to the clothes that will help you weather the brisk months ahead, actor Ed Westwick reaches for the pieces that embrace timeless style and construction. Because the best gear shouldn’t last just one season but a lifetime.

*****

On the first-ever episode of the outrageously hyped television sensation Gossip Girl, Ed Westwick’s character, Chuck Bass, bookended a pair of date-rape scenes with a weed reference and the memorable zinger—delivered to the show’s principal, Serena—“Your life is over, slut!”

“Villain is such a harsh word,” Westwick says from a hotel room in Washington, D.C., where he has just attended the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. It’s hard to imagine what a recently minted 22-year-old television antagonist from England was doing pressing the flesh with Beltway muckrackers. But Westwick, who looks like Jude Law crossed with a pre-psychotropic-meltdown Joaquin Phoenix, assures us in his assured British way that “everyone who is anyone was there.”

If that makes Westwick sound like a bit of a dick, surrender now—it’s part of his appeal. Just ask Gossip Girl’s freakishly wide-ranging demographic of religious watchers, many of whom are as entertained by the incestuous nature of the cast as by the show itself. Westwick dates co-star Jessica Szohr (they played kissy face at our shoot) and is roommates (cute!) with Chace Crawford. When pushed to dish, Westwick minimizes the thin line between work and play, and fair enough. You’d date a co-worker if she looked like Jessica Szohr.

Still, is there a downside to all that Gossip glare? What happens when TV’s latest prep-school bad boy tours Arlington Cemetery with his real-life parents? “Every time the tram would stop, these girls would come up, giggle, then run off,” Westwick says. “You feel like the kid in school that everyone’s laughing at.”—will welch
